Ken Adam talks his journey into Production Design et al in "Cold War Modern" for the V&A on Vimeo

I've admired Ken Adams' work since I was a wee lad watching Bond films, which of course meant I also got to stay up past 11:00 pm ! A volcano... with a secret lair underneath that facade. I never looked at the landscape the same, and often from that point on wondered what lurked beneath the surface of everything (and still do). Everywhere I go I see these places and doors and wonder what mastermind is hidden behind them, what grand casino is just under the floor at what restaurant, thanks to Mr. Adams.

Of course I had no idea who designed these crazy sets or even what a Production Designer was at that point, but at that age his sets were definitely the gold standard in my book.

Dieter Rams' Principles of Good Design on Vimeo

"too shiny" ...brilliant. i think the same exact thing every time i peel back the case off my old iPhone (which i put on in the first place, to hide that shiny lunacy).

I've seen many interviews with Herr Rams lately, and as much as i love chaos/accidents, i can't believe how much i wish the world, even whilst bathing chaotic, would damn well treat every aspect of the creation process with equal status and design with some sort of modesty, whether making cars, food, websites, teapots or whatever.
