Ray: A Life Underwater - Ashort by Danny Cooke - "Everybody wants gold and mermaid"

Ray: A Life Underwater from Danny Cooke on Vimeo.

This is a wonderful short about 75 year old diver Ray Ives, who still takes to the water in a 1900s diving suit, and has a crzy collection of found objects. Really moving.

Details:

A rogue with an eye for salvage - and the ladies - Ray: A Life Underwater is an affectionate portrait of one man's deep sea diving career, told through his extraordinary collection of marine artefacts.

Like a modern-day pirate, 75-year-old Ray Ives has been scouring the seabed for treasure his whole life. The former commercial diver has plundered the deep for over fifty years, bringing to the surface anything that glittered -- even gold. In a shipping container near the water, Ray tends his museum of cannon, bottles, bells, swords, portholes and diving gear. Ray can be found most days at his museum at Yacht Haven Quay, Plymouth.

"The lost Thing" a short by Shaun Tans and Andrew Ruhmann. In this video about the sound design, Supervising Sound Editor and Sound Designer John Kassab discusses his extensive work on this animated masterpiece bringing to life the world of the Lost Thing.

The story of "The Lost Thing" is about a boy who discovers a bizarre looking creature while out collecting bottle tops at the beach. Having guessed it is lost, he tries to find out who owns it or where it belongs, but is met with mute indifference from everyone else, who barely notice its presence, each unwilling to entertain this uninvited interruption to their day to day lives. For reasons he does not explain, the boy empathizes with the creature, and sets out to find a ‘place’ for it.

Directors Shaun Tan and Andrew Ruhemann were also winners for Best Animated Short Film for "The Lost Thing" at the 83rd Academy Awards in 2011.
